This species is also known as the Early Mining Bee and is typically observed between March and June. It is 8 to 11 mm in length, has a foxy brown thorax on top and a black abdomen that has minimal hair, except for conspicuous orange hairs at the tip. Males are significantly smaller than the females and have lighter-coloured hairs, which may appear grey or white. Females normally nest alone or in small groups.
