Footballer Hoverfly
Helophilus pendulus
This hoverfly is commonly referred to as the 'Footballer Hoverfly' because of its striped thorax. It is also known as the 'Tiger Hoverfly' and the 'Sunfly.' This species is typically observed on sunny days near lakes and forest ponds from April to September. The larvae inhabit shallow, stagnant, or organically polluted water and very wet decaying matter, such as manure.
