Lackey

Malacosoma neustria

Lackey caterpillars start by feeding in communal webs on low shrubs belonging to the Rose family and sometimes on broadleaf trees. As they grow older, the larvae leave the webs. The moths may be difficult to spot, but the bright-coloured caterpillars are easily recognisable due to their multi-coloured stripes and ginger hairs.
