Spotted Lacehopper

Tachycixius pilosus

Lacehoppers are small, sap-feeding insects that belong to the planthopper family Cixiidae. They are named for their delicate, transparent wings, which have a lace-like pattern of veins. This species features three keels on the scutellum and is identified by dark spots located between the veins at the tip of the forewing. Additionally, there are usually three short dark stripes along the edge of the forewing, and the colouration of the forewings can vary significantly. These insects, which measure approximately 5 mm in length, are generally seen from May to July. The larvae feed on the base of various grasses.
