Red Velvet Mite
Trombidiidae
Red mites from the family Trombidiidae can reach lengths of up to 4 mm. Their bodies are covered with hairs that function as sensory structures. During spring, several similar species can be commonly found in deciduous woodland. Adults have eight legs, whereas their larvae possess only six. These mites typically inhabit soil litter throughout the year. Identifying individual species without a microscope is not feasible.
