Wildlife Protection Zone

Hainault Lake

Hainault Lake has now been designated a Wildlife Protection Zone. Dog owners are asked to keep their pets on a short leash. This measure is intended to safeguard local bird populations, which are frequently injured or killed, as well as to address findings from recent studies indicating that certain dog medications—especially flea, tick, and worming treatments—can be harmful to aquatic wildlife. The active ingredients in these products wash off pets and contaminate the water damaging the precious ecosystem.
