Silver-washed Fritillary

Argynnis paphia

The Silver-washed Fritillary is on the wing from June to August. It is a spectacular large butterfly with a wingspan up to 8cm. The common name is a reference to the silver streaks on the underside of its wings. It has a preference for flying in woodland glades on sunny days. Not common in Hainault Forest.
