Bee Orchid

Ophrys apifera

The Bee Orchid is a small plant with a rosette of elliptical leaves and one to two stem leaves that are either pressed against or wrapped around the stem. Its flowers feature pink sepals and green upper petals, with a lower lip that is expanded and resembles a bumblebee. The flowering period extends from the end of May to July, when this orchid is usually found near Hainault Lake.
