European Hornet

Vespa crabro

This hornet landed on scat produced by a fox. Fresh fox scat attracts flies and beetles seeking food or a place to lay eggs. Hornets hunt these insects, which they then take back to their nest to feed their larvae. Hornets also visit scat to sustain themselves on moisture and nutrients.
