Clouded Yellow
Colias croceus
Some years, favourable winds transport thousands of Clouded Yellow butterflies across the English Channel. This has been a particularly good year for spotting this immigrant in the scrub areas of Hainault Forest. This species usually struggles to endure the cold and wet winters in Britain, although there have been rare instances of mild overwintering in southern England.
