Dock Bug

Coreus marginatus

Dock Bugs are herbivorous insects that consume leaves and seeds of dock and sorrel plants. They can reach lengths of up to 15mm and are found in various damp and dry environments. When disturbed, they have scent glands located in the middle of their thorax that can emit strong-smelling and irritating substances. The two small projections situated between their antennae are distinctive features useful for identification. Adults mate and lay eggs in the spring, producing one generation each year.
