Purple Emperor

The Purple Emperor is on the wing from June to August. They feed around the treetops so are not observed very often in Hainault Forest, although they sometimes visit the ground on sunny days searching for moist items from which to drink. This particular specimen had flown into the Global Cafe, unfortunately it wouldn't open its wings for a photograph.
