As the project got underway it became apparent that certain homes on Sylvan Way had washing machines improperly hooked up to surface water drains instead of foul water drains leading to contamination of local streams. The pollution shown in this picture was caused by the incorrect connection of appliances. Wet wipes  had also led to slow drainage and blockages in the waste water system. Wet wipes should always be disposed of in the bin rather than flushed, even if the packaging claims they are flushable.
