Chigwell Row Windmill cont.

The perimeter of the playground at Wells Park School suggested it may have been the site where a windmill once stood. The overhead view from Google Maps in 2016 showed the playground with an outline that was distinctly windmill shaped. A check on Google Maps in 2026 indicated that the playground has since altered shape.

The well that Chigwell Row is believed to be named after was situated near Tylney Close, just beyond the school's boundary fence to the south. In "The Environs of London pt.1" (1811), it was noted that "there is a spring near the windmill at Chigwell Row, of a cathartic quality; the water of which was recommended by the celebrated physician Dr. Frewen, who was a native of this parish."
