Dandelion

Taraxacum agg.

Dandelions are a common presence in grasslands, appearing in a variety of microspecies that can be challenging to differentiate even for experienced botanists. All varieties feature yellow composite flower-heads densely packed with florets. The leaves of the common dandelion are typically lobed and spoon-shaped, and the stem releases a milky white sap when broken. Additionally, white fluffy seed heads develop, aiding in the distribution of seeds by wind. In France, dandelions are referred to as "pissenlit," which translates to "wet the bed." This name is appropriate, as consuming the leaves can have diuretic effects, leading to increased fluid removal from the body. Therefore, it may be advisable to avoid eating dandelion salad before going to sleep.
