Catsear

Hypochaeris radicata

Catsear is a common perennial plant that grows in grassland from June to September. It features yellow composite flower-heads that measure between 20 to 30 mm in diameter. The bracts are dull greyish-green and have a bristly texture along the midrib. There is a basal rosette of wavy-edged leaves that are covered with numerous stiff, unbranched hairs raised on small bumps. Leaves do not usually grow on the stem.

Due to similarity with other species, Catsear cannot be identified by just looking at the flower-head.
