Crow Garlic
Allium vineale
Crow Garlic, also known as 'Wild Onion', is a perennial that favours dry, grassy habitats. It typically blooms from June to August and can be found growing along Foxburrow Road, near the main entrance, when not cut back. Initially, the flower-heads are encased in a papery sheath, which soon falls away to reveal a round umbel containing greenish to purple bulbils alongside pink flowers. Some plants consists mainly of bulbils, though some varieties produce only flowers. The long, hollow leaves can be either cylindrical or semi-cylindrical. The leaves wither before the flowering stems appear in late spring. The stems are generally tough and fibrous.
