Bluebell
Hyacinthoides non-scripta
In spring, Bluebells, characterised by their drooping flower-heads, cover the floor of the ancient woodland at Lambourne End. This short, bulbous perennial produces clusters of narrow, keeled leaves and a single, long, leafless spike that bears bright-blue bell-shaped flowers (15 to 20 mm) possessing creamy anthers. Their main threat is the introduction of Spanish Bluebells and hybrids, and also being trampled by visitors.
