Butcher's Broom

Ruscus aculeatus

Butcher's Broom is a bushy shrub that typically grows to a height of about 80 cm. Its seemingly rigid leaves are actually modified stems known as 'cladodes,' which end in sharp, stiff spines. Tiny flowers emerge on the cladodes; the male flowers have white anthers on top.
