Bee Orchid
Ophrys apifera
Bee Orchids are present from late May to July. The plants feature a rosette of leaves at ground level and two leaves that extend up the stem in a sheath. The stem bears several flowers, which are intended to lure bees for pollination. However, since the specific bee species they seek to attract is not found in Britain, the plants have to self-pollinate.
