THE SHEAN FAMILY
Mail from New Zealand.
Beatrice Shean received letters from overseas, including a first day cover celebrating New Zealand's first Balloon Post.
Boundary changes and house renumbering sometimes caused confusion with postal deliveries when the Hainault Estate was built. Road names in the new estate usually had a connection with the forest. Birch Grove and Beech Grove were named after trees. Birch Grove was subsequently renamed Clinton Crescent due to similarities in the names and unclear handwriting, which contributed to misdeliveries of mail.
Annie Shean lived in the cottage until the Council decided to replace the terrace with modern houses. The cottages were demolished in 1971.
