The Moonmoth Nature Trail

On 27th September 2005, the Mayor of Redbridge, Councillor Charles Elliman, officially opened a Nature Trail in Hainault Forest. In his remarks, Councillor Elliman highlighted the significance of the initiative and the necessity for open spaces like Hainault Forest. The project was developed by sculptor Jeff Higley in collaboration with Country Park manager Paul Browne. Woodhenge served as the central feature of the Nature Trail, which included four large sculptures. An additional eight sculptures representing the life cycles of various creatures were later added to complete a large circle. The sculptures were crafted from oak trees that were removed during the restoration of a wood pasture area. Local groups and children participated in workshops to aid in the carving throughout the project.

Over twenty years later, many of the sculptures still exist, including the Green Man. Will you notice him when you walk in the woods?
