Speckled Bush-cricket
Leptophyes punctatissima
Adults of this common species, measuring 9 to 18 mm in length, are present in woodland and scrub habitats from July to August. The green body is speckled with tiny black spots. Males usually have an orangey-brown dorsal stripe, however this can occasionally be extremely faint or absent. Females are almost always uniformly bright green and possess a prominent, upturned ovipositor shaped like a scimitar, which is utilised for depositing eggs.
