Thrips

Thysanoptera

Thrips are minute winged insects commonly referred to as 'Thunderflies,' because they tend to appear in large numbers during thundery weather. The adults pictured have slender black bodies measuring 2-3 mm in length and feature two pairs of narrow wings with fringed edges. They are accompanied by yellow larvae which have antennae and pointed tails. Without microscopic examination it is impossible to determine the species.
