Mother of Pearl
Patania ruralis
This moth is frequently disturbed in nettle patches during the day in July and August. It usually rests on the underside of the leaves. Although it is classified as a micro-moth, it is larger than many macro-moths. The wings have a colourful sheen, which contributes to its common name. The larvae mainly feed on stinging nettles but also consume several other plants, residing in folded spun leaves of the host plants for shelter, pupation, and hibernation.
