Box-tree Moth

Cydalima perspectalis

This species is thought to have entered the country through accidental importation on box plants from Asia. It was first documented in Kent in 2007 and has been spreading quickly across Britain. It is regarded as a pest species due to the significant damage it inflicts on box trees. There are three distinct forms: a white form, a melanic form, and an intermediate form. It is usually seen from June to October. This is a large micro-moth with a wingspan reaching up to 42 mm.
