Oak Eggar

Lasiocampa quercus

This species flies in July and August. Males fly during the day, females are nocturnal. The shape of its cocoon is acorn-shaped, which is the reason for the common name. The larvae do not feed on oak, they prefer heather, bilberry, bramble and other woody plants.
