Green Woodpecker

Picus viridis

Green Woodpeckers exhibit a unique flying style characterised by an undulating motion, which involves alternating between quick, strong wingbeats and brief glides with their wings folded. When they take off, they typically display a flash of yellow from their rump, accompanied by a distinctive laughing call. 'Yaffle' is an old country name used for the Green woodpecker which derived from the bird's loud call.
