Red Fox

Vulpes vulpes

This fox was over 100 metres away when it turned around after hearing approaching footsteps. Foxes have a very wide range of hearing. They have two mobile outer ears that rotate independently to pinpoint where a sound is coming from. They can hear a mouse squeak from over 30 metres away and detect low-frequency sounds like insects, worms, or rodents digging underground.
