London Road, Abridge

Postcard publisher: Unknown
The Maltster's Arms at the end of London Road is an 18th-century, timber-framed, weatherboarded building that was formerly two houses. Turning left beyond the pub leads to the Market Place where cattle were once traded. A slaughter house stood behind the butcher's shop that was situated there. In the distance, the Poplars, a bay-windowed building built about 1870, was located near the bottom of Hoe Lane. It fell into a state of disrepair and eventually made way for council housing during the 1960s.
