Yellow Meadow Ant

Lasius flavus

The Yellow Meadow Ant is a small yellow ant recognised for making anthills on undisturbed grassland in sunny locations, Workers are seldom observed above ground. They typically feed on small insects and honeydew produced by root-feeding aphids. Numerous mounds constructed in soil may be present, established by a solo queen or groups of queens. The anthills can endure many years and often support their own flora.
