Common Carder Bee
Bombus pascuorum
Queens emerge from hibernation from March and June, with worker bees appearing from April onwards, and males and new females present from July to October. The bees utilise moss and dry grass to create the nest covering. Nests are constructed above ground in tall, open grassland, under hedges, and in piles of plant litter. Nest sizes are relatively small, accommodating up to 150 workers. Workers are sometimes active until October.
